Statement Regarding Ongoing Charter Review
The Bryan Allen Stevenson School of Excellence (BASSE) is currently participating in a formal charter review process. We are committed to providing accurate, transparent information to families, staff, and the broader community.
Financial Clarification
Recent public reporting has referenced an “$81,000 deficit.”
To clarify: BASSE is not operating with an $81,000 audited deficit.
The referenced figure reflects a point-in-time budget variance tied to enrollment-based revenue projections within the state funding system. It is not a finalized audit determination nor a fiscal year deficit finding.
As with all public charter schools, BASSE’s funding is directly influenced by student enrollment. When enrollment shifts, projected revenue must be updated to reflect actual unit counts. Revised budget materials reflecting updated enrollment figures have been submitted as part of the formal review process.
Leadership & Fiscal Stabilization
When current leadership assumed responsibility, the school faced a substantially larger inherited financial challenge. Since that time, the school has:
Strengthened fiscal oversight and internal controls
- Reviewed and discontinued contracts that did not align with responsible stewardship
- Realigned staffing and expenditures to current enrollment realities
- Cooperated fully with all documentation requests
These measures reflect a deliberate effort to stabilize operations and ensure responsible governance.
Review Process
The Charter School Accountability Committee has initiated a formal review. BASSE is actively participating in the process and has provided updated financial documentation and operational information as requested.
