The Bryan Allen Stevenson School of Excellence (BASSE) has been notified that the Delaware Department of Education’s Charter School Accountability Committee (CSAC) has recommended revocation of the school’s charter beginning in the 2026–2027 school year. This recommendation is not a final decision.

The final determination will be made by the Delaware Secretary of Education at the State Board of Education meeting scheduled for March 19th.

BASSE respectfully disagrees with the CSAC recommendation. Over the past year, the school has implemented significant organizational, financial, and academic improvements. These efforts include stabilizing the school’s budget, strengthening instructional systems, enhancing operational oversight, and deepening engagement with families and community stakeholders.

The recommendation is primarily based on projected enrollment numbers for the upcoming school year. BASSE leadership believes these projections do not fully reflect the current momentum of the school community or the growing interest among families seeking a culturally responsive, equity-driven educational environment.

We are prepared to demonstrate that BASSE has both the leadership and community support necessary to remain open and thrive.”

In the coming weeks, BASSE will continue working closely with families, staff, and community partners to demonstrate strong student retention and enrollment interest for the 2026–2027 school year.

BASSE encourages families and community members who support the school’s mission to:

  • Confirm or submit enrollment applications for the upcoming school year;
  • Attend the March 19th State Board of Education meeting;
  • Share their positive experiences and advocacy for the school;
